Le syndrome X fragile (SXF) est la cause la plus fréquente de retard mental d'origine héréditaire avec une incidence estimée à 1 cas sur 8 000 chez les sujets féminins et 1 cas sur 4 000 chez les sujets masculins (Turner, Webb, Wake & Robinson, 1996 ; Kooy, Willemsen & Oostra, 2000). Ce syndrome est causé par le dysfonctionnement du gène FMR-1 (Fragile X Mental Retardation) situé sur le chromosome X entraînant une réduction ou une absence de production de la protéine FMRP (Fragile X Mental Retardation Protein). Ce syndrome se caractérise chez les garçons atteints, par diverses particularités physiques, des problèmes médicaux et des troubles comportementaux, mais également par un profil cognitif marqué notamment par des troubles attentionnels sévères dont des troubles de l'attention sélective (Cornish, Munir & Cross, 2001 ; Ndjaye, 2010 ; Wilding, Cornish & Munir, 2002). Notre travail a pour objectif d'évaluer l'efficacité d'un entraînement spécifique de l'attention sélective auditivo-verbale chez cinq jeunes hommes atteints du syndrome X fragile âgés de 15 ;9 à 20 ;9 ans. Le programme d'entraînement est composé de tâches dans lesquelles le sujet doit détecter des mots cibles dans une séquence auditive de mots. Les niveaux de difficultés sont fonction du type d'information (item ou séquentielle) et du nombre d'item cibles à traiter. Nous avons en outre évalué en pré et post thérapie les capacités de raisonnement non verbal, lexicales, mnésiques et attentionnelles afin de mesurer l'efficacité de la thérapie ainsi qu'une éventuelle généralisation des effets du traitement sur d'autres fonctions cognitives. En substance, les résultats obtenus mettent en évidence une importante variabilité interindividuelle.
